Adversaries in Law

Friends of the court also ought to be friends outside court.

In his Taming of the Shrew (Act 1, Scene 2), Shakespeare noted:

“…And do as adversaries do in law – strive mightily, but eat and drink as friends.”

This is true.

Contend what you would inside the courtroom; but outside, be calm, and be amicable. Nothing will be solved if litigators themselves come to blows over their clients’ disputes.
